Just renewed my Microsoft MVP award for another year. 🎉

“How did you get recognized for MVP so fast?!”

I get this question a lot. Just a few years ago I was transitioning from nursing to DevOps. Today I’m a Microsoft MVP.

Here’s what happened.

The moment everything changed:

I started sharing my learning journey from day 1. Not after I became an expert. From the very beginning.

While studying Kubernetes, Docker, and Linux, I noticed something. The tutorials and docs had gaps. Steps were missing. Real world problems weren’t covered.

So I started filling those gaps.

Thats it. Simple, right?

My simple process you can copy today:

  • Learn something new
  • Find what was missing from the sources you used
  • Create content that filled that gap (a blog, LinkedIn Post, YouTube Video)
  • Share the complete solution, what you learned, how your experience was
  • Help others avoid my struggles

Why this works:

The MVP program is tough. You earn it every year by proving your impact. It’s not easy to get or keep.

But here’s the secret: you don’t need to be an expert to start helping people.

You just need to be *one *step ahead and willing to document your journey.

The result?

People started noticing. My content helped solve real problems. The community grew. Microsoft took notice.

2 MVP awards later, I can tell you this: recognition follows value creation.

And not just that. This very same exposure has given me hundreds of job opportunities* I have to *say no to.

! Your turn:

Start sharing what you’re learning this week. Fill in the gaps you wished existed when you were struggling.

The tech community needs your perspective. Your struggles are someone else’s roadmap.

Your journey matters more than you think.

P.S. As AI floods the internet with generic content, real human experience becomes incredibly valuable. Your actual struggles and solutions are exactly what people need. And that’s exactly what leads to recognition and career opportunities.
