Quick question: Have you ever sent out dozens of CVs and heard… nothing?

You’re not alone. I’ve seen brilliant engineers with strong homelabs and production experience get zero callbacks - not because they lack skills, but because their CVs fail the 6-second scan.💥 The #1 CV killer for DevOps engineers

Last week, I sat down with a hiring manager who screens hundreds of DevOps applications every month.

His biggest frustration?

Most CVs read like technical documentation. They’re detailed, dense, and impossible to scan.

We’re trained to write for machines and technical peers. But recruiters are skimming for impact, not just tools..

Last year, one Engineer in KubeCraft said he applied with a plain Word document that contained barely anything, and thought people who don’t take that seriously, are not serious!

With that mindset, you will be stuck not hearing back.. Lets fix that CV.

Here’s a pro-tip to translate Tools to Impact:

  • Listing tools without context *“Proficient in Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform”* says nothing about value
  • Using technical jargon without translation *“Implemented GitOps workflows”* doesn’t tell HR anything
  • No quantified results Engineers describe what they built, not the outcome

What actually works

  • Lead with impact *“Reduced deployment time by 60% using Kubernetes automation”*
  • Use the 2-line rule Two lines of context, then punchy bullets with results
  • Front-load your wins Put your biggest achievement first in each section
  • Translate tech to business *“Implemented Prometheus monitoring”* becomes *“Reduced MTTR from 45 min to 8 min using proactive alerting”*
  • Add scale *“Managed 50+ microservices across 12 clusters”* gives instant credibility

Real example transformation

❌ *Before:* “Managed CI/CD pipelines with Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform”

✅ *After:* “Reduced release time from 4 hours to 12 minutes using Jenkins and Terraform, enabling daily deployments for an 8-person team”

The second one screams impact.

Another one:

❌ *Before:* “Implemented Infrastructure as Code practices”

✅ *After:* “Eliminated 90% of manual provisioning using Terraform, cutting setup time from 2 days to 20 minutes”

This is just one part of the puzzle. Your CV needs to work with your online presence, LinkedIn profile, and personal brand. If you want a 6-figure job, you need the full package - and you need to show up like a 6-figure engineer. If you don’t, somebody else will. 👉 Join KubeCraft if you’re ready to learn the tech stack and how to land the job.
